Physical Damage Insurance FAQs
Why do you need physical damage insurance?
There’s no way around it: It’s expensive to repair trucks, let alone replace them. Physical damage insurance coverage can help minimize the financial impact of repairs or replacement after an incident involving a truck, trailer or equipment. This type of coverage adds a layer of protection for your business operation and can keep periods of inactivity to a minimum.
What's the difference between collision and comprehensive coverage?
Physical damage insurance comes in two forms: collision and comprehensive. Collision covers damage to a truck that resulted from a collision with another vehicle or object. Comprehensive covers damage that occurred in incidents that aren’t collisions. For example, if a fleet has comprehensive coverage, then they’re protected against damage due to natural disasters, theft, vandalism or hitting an animal.
Do you need add-on coverage?
While add-on coverage is optional, it’s often a smart investment. At Ten Four Truck Insurance, our extended physical damage coverage offers a range of additional protection, such as for downtime/rental, personal property in the truck, electronic equipment, and more.
What doesn't physical damage insurance cover?
Physical damage insurance will not cover the following:
- Wear and tear
- Mechanical breakdowns
- Cargo loss or damage
- Bodily injury or property damage
Will physical damage insurance pay what I still owe on the truck?
Yes, in most cases. Physical damage coverage is typically required by finance companies (lienholders) and pays the market value of your truck at the time of a covered loss. Sometimes the market value may be higher than your loan balance, but if it is lower, you could still owe money on your loan.
That’s why Ten Four Truck Insurance automatically includes GAP coverage with every physical damage policy. GAP coverage protects you by paying the difference between what you still owe and the truck’s market value—up to $20,000—if the truck is declared a total loss. As long as your loan balance is within $20,000 of the truck’s insured value, you’re covered.
We also offer additional GAP options of $35,000 and $50,000.
