Ask Mike is back! Do you have a truck repair or truck maintenance question for Mike? Send him a message.

This week’s question comes from Adeliana.

Her question:

“How do I maintain my cooling system to keep it from overheating.”

How to keep cooling systems from overheating:

“The first thing you want to do is make sure your coolant level is full and you want to make sure you have the right type of coolant for your engine. If you’re here in the Midwest where it gets really cold, the ideal freeze point is -34 degrees.

Make sure your clamps are good and tight and make sure your hoses aren’t cracked and frayed or leaking anywhere.

The next thing you want to do is make sure the radiator fins are clean. Make sure there’s no bugs, dirt or road grime that can block the airflow. You can also take a garden hose and wash it out every once in a while to get all the stuff out of it.”
