This week’s question:

“How often should I clean my truck’s DPF?”

How often to clean the DPF and why it’s important:

A plugged DPF can create higher exhaust back pressure and hire engine temperatures. It also pushes that heat into the turbo, which can lead to expensive failures. If the filter gets too full, the truck will derate, go into limp mode, and it can even shut down.

Cleaning the DPF reduces downtime for your truck. Aim to clean it every 200,000 to 300,000 miles. You may want to clean it more often if your truck idles a lot or you have a local route in town.

Bottom line: Cleaning your DPF isn’t optional maintenance. It’s essential. It will keep your truck running stronger, longer and cheaper.
