Like Ten Four Truck Insurance, Mike’s all about helping drivers save money and keep downtime to a minimum.
That’s why this “Ask Mike” question is so fitting: How can drivers cut costs and reduce truck downtime?
Mike has three suggestions.
1. Be informed.
When you do take your rig in for repairs, be sure you find an honest shop. A good shop won’t charge you for unnecessary repairs or complete repairs without your consent.
Also, know your warranties inside and out. Know what’s covered and what is not.
Finally, know when using quality used parts makes sense and when you should opt for new parts.
2. Learn how to do it yourself.
The DIY approach is fine for small repairs. This can include marker lights, topping off fluids, quick air line fixes and similar minor repairs.
Keep an emergency repair kit with duct tape, zip ties and basic hand tools in your truck.
3. Drive smart.
Finally, ease off the throttle. Find that sweet spot for best fuel milage. Driving smart puts less wear and tear on you truck and lowers your costs over time.
